Last in the league, Brighton lost four of their five matches  and scored 19 goals. "We have had a very difficult start to the new season with many changes to our squad and the results have not gone as we  all hoped. Sunday's heavy defeat at home to Tottenham was particularly disappointing," Powell said  in a club statement. "I feel now is the right time to step aside and let the new coach  take the team forward as there is still plenty of Super League football  to be played this season." Former England midfielder Powell (55) managed the national team from 1998 to 2013.
