MANCHESTER: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag challenged Marcus Rashford to channel the frustration of missing recent games to score against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.
Rashford scored 10 goals in Thursday's 1-0 Europa League win over Omonia Nicosia but was denied and midfielder Scott McTominay saved United's stoppage-time winner.
"He knows he has to be more clinical," Ten Hag said at a press conference.
"When he has such good moves, makes such good combos, makes such good actions, he has to stop. But sometimes it's not your night, it's the shape of the day, but it can become a different game.
"He's on a really good run, he's proving it with the chances he's created. He's been a bit unlucky in the last two games, but I say leave it for next week."
Rashford is United's top scorer in all competitions with five goals, but must be more productive if the Ten Hag side are to finish in the top four in the Premier League, with their forwards also lacking consistency.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored just twice this season, while Anthony Martial has struggled with injuries and is a doubt for the Newcastle game after just 29 minutes against Everton last Sunday.
The exception is Brazilian striker Antony, who became the first player in the club's history to score in his first three league games, scoring against Arsenal, Manchester City and Everton.
Ten Hag supported their attacking players to improve their goal scoring numbers, but said they wanted players to contribute to scoring goals from all positions.
"I am mostly sure that my players will score. We have players in the team but we are divided because we have many scorers in the attacking department but we also need something in the midfield and in the defensive department," he said. .
The Dutch coach also said Omonia's latest win will boost his team's spirits ahead of a busy week of Premier League games against Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
"It gives a new boost to the team. Confidence and spirit are already good, but it gives a boost to others," he added. "We're up against tough opponents but we're looking forward to it, it's a real test for us as a team."
